September 8 –Pressed Botanical Collage

THIS meeting will be at Trinity Church auditorium, 85 West St, Rutland

Through demonstration, Beth Murphy will cover all aspects of collecting, pressing, storing and using botanical materials. Her program will also include a hands-on session where each member can create a greeting card and a bookmark from pressed botanicals supplied by the artist that they can take home with them. Please bring a small paintbrush for gluing. Beth will have artwork and cards available for purchase.

 

October 13 - Putting Your Garden To Bed

Chris Ferrero, Cornell Master Gardener, will present a timely program called “Putting Your Garden to Bed”. She will talk about decisions we need to make about cleaning up our gardens and will give us easy hacks to make the job easier. This will be a zoom presentation.

 

November 10 – Containers, Showy Annuals to Veggies and Perennials

Kelly Wakefield is the St. Albans Garden Club President and the Curator of the Historic Taylor Park Gardens and the Downtown streetscape plantings and Hanging Baskets. She will talk to us about container gardening in small spaces, giving us some new tips and tricks to keep our gardens growing and looking exciting. She will also discuss the challenges of Public Garden spaces, and how to add color and big impact without breaking the budget.

 

November 17 – Workshop:  Kathy Perkins will do a “Make and Take” Topiary Workshop. Time and place TBA

 

December 8 – Our looked-forward-to Holiday Party at the Country Club, a time to enjoy one another’s company in a festive atmosphere.

January 12 – Looking towards Summer

By this time, we gardeners are beginning to dream about and plan for our summer gardens. Jana Milbocker’s program “Rise and Shine” will give us food for thought about how to get our gardens ready for the upcoming growing season. This program will be a zoom presentation.

 

February 9 – The World of Peter Huntoon

Much-loved local artist, Peter Huntoon will present a program about his work, highlighting his floral pieces. He’ll do a painting right before our eyes which will be auctioned off at the meeting. Peter will have artwork and cards available for purchase.

 

March 9 – Public Meeting – Beyond Perennials with Henry Homeyer

Henry will talk to us about perennials and much more: Using woody plants, art, stone and whimsy to enhance your landscape, including some great seasonal tips. 

 

April 13 – Kokedama

At this meeting our own Kathy Perkins will demonstrate making a "Kokedama”. Kokedama, which translates to 'moss ball', is a centuries-old Japanese planting technique where a plant’s root system is encased in a specialized soil sphere, wrapped in green moss, and bound with string." These sculptures can be displayed on decorative dishes or suspended in the air.

April 20 – Workshop:  Kathy will facilitate a “Make and Take” Kokedama Workshop for those who would like to make his/her own Kokedama. All materials for the workshop will be provided for a small fee. Time and Place TBA

 

May 11 – Annual Meeting

Horticulturist, author, photographer and “fanatical and passionate organic gardener”, Tovah Martin, will join us at our annual meeting. An expert on gardens, houseplants, pollinators, and photography, she will delight us with her gardening tips, stories and inspiration.
